With summer days disappearing and autumn officially in full swing, don't wave goodbye to your summer wardrobe just yet. While you might think it's too cold to wear your favourite graphic print skirt or chiffon blouse, there are ways in which you can introduce them to your autumn fashion looks.
The phrase 'holding onto summer' couldn't be more apt, but we're not complaining. While we love the trends that autumn has in store, it's a shame to have to put away our favourite summer pieces for another year – so we like to call it an efficient transition.
Here are some of our tips for making your summer staples September-ready:
Keep warm with tights
Although it's not the weather for bare legs (unless you're brave), you can still wear your much-loved skirt – just with tights.
A pair of opaque tights will help you to beat the chill while ensuring you are still totally on-trend. If you aren't a huge fan of black tights, be a little more adventurous and flaunt a pair in a bold colour. Burgundy or navy tights are a great alternative and in-keeping with the autumn season.
Team up with trousers
Remember that sleeveless blouse you wore all through summer? Well, there's no reason why you can't wear it this season; but rather than pairing it with your favourite skirt or shorts, wear it with some stylish trousers.
This season, flared trousers are all the rage, bringing back that 70s style – just with a whole lot more edge. Your blouse will look amazing with a pair of flares in an autumnal tan shade. Complete your look with a pair of pointed-toe boots and a suede, tassel bag and you'll be good to go.
If you used to wear leggings on a warm, summer's evening, switch them for a pair of leather ones. These create a rock chick vibe that's sure to make you look super fierce, as well as help to keep you warm on a cool autumn day.
Style your leather leggings with a pair of grey, over the knee boots and wrap up in a faux fur snood.
Playsuit to jumpsuit
Playsuits are great for the summer season and are a fun alternative to a dress or pair of shorts. Now that the temperatures have dropped though, stepping out in a playsuit is perhaps not the wisest idea.
Don't fret, because you can switch your playsuit for its older and more demure sister, the jumpsuit. Whether you opt for a sleeved design or go sleeveless, you'll no doubt look red carpet-ready.
Team your jumpsuit with a pair of stiletto court shoes and a sequin clutch bag and you'll be ready to hit the town.
